Privacy Policy

This policy describes the information collected during a visit, why it is used, and the limited circumstances in which another party may receive it. By using Decatur County Court Docket, you accept the practices stated below.

Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

A name or case number entered in a search tool is sent directly to the outside provider that operates that tool. The provider processes the request and supplies any result. Decatur County Court Docket does not retain or log those search terms on its own systems.

Messages and Contact Submissions

An email or other direct message may be retained long enough to answer and maintain the related correspondence. It is not shared outside the organization unless disclosure is required by law.

Data We Gather Automatically

When a page loads, the servers may automatically receive standard technical and usage details:

  • The IP address assigned to your device
  • Which browser you are using and its version
  • Your device type and operating system
  • The pages you visited and how long you stayed on each
  • The site that sent you here, if any
  • Timestamps for each page view

Cookies and Analytics

Cookies are small files placed on a device to help measure use, such as popular pages and points where visits end. Analytics providers may combine that traffic information into aggregate reports. A browser can block cookies, though doing so may change how some functions behave.

What We Do With This Data

  • Keeping the site up, running, and loading quickly
  • Sending your search requests to the right partner service
  • Figuring out which pages people find useful and which need work
  • Tracking down and fixing technical issues
  • Showing ads that may line up with your interests

No Court-Record Data on File

Decatur County Court Docket does not host, maintain, compile, or sell a database of court dockets or personal case information. It publishes general directions to records held by Decatur County Clerk Janet Howell, Decatur Circuit Court, Decatur Superior Court, and Indiana MyCase. The site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and visitor data is not assembled into consumer reports or third-party profiles.

Third-Party Search Partners

Outside companies operate the search boxes. Information submitted there is governed by the provider's privacy policy rather than this policy. Each provider controls its own retention and disclosure practices. Review those terms before sending a query.

Links to Other Websites

Links may lead to Decatur County offices, Indiana court systems, legal resources, or outside search services. Once a visitor follows an external link, the destination's privacy policy controls. Review it before providing personal information.

Advertising providers may use their own technology to measure activity across websites and select ads. That processing occurs through their systems.

Who Might See Your Data

Personal data is not sold. Limited information may be provided to:

  • Search partners that handle queries you run on our site
  • Analytics services we use to track traffic and performance
  • Ad networks that place ads on our pages
  • Law enforcement or government bodies when a valid legal order requires it

How We Protect Your Data

Reasonable security practices are used to protect collected data. No internet system is completely secure, however, so absolute protection against loss, misuse, or unauthorized access cannot be guaranteed.

Users Under 18

The service is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If such information is identified, a deletion request may be submitted.

Your Data Rights

Rights can vary with a visitor's location and applicable law. Indiana's Access to Public Records Act, Indiana Code 5-14-3, governs access to many public-agency records, while court records are also subject to Indiana Access Rules 4 and 5. Those public-record rules do not convert this private site's visitor data into an official Decatur County court record. Subject to applicable privacy law, you may:

  • Ask for a copy of what we have on file about you
  • Have us fix information that is wrong
  • Request that we erase your data
  • Opt out of certain kinds of data processing

Updates to This Policy

This policy may be revised as practices or legal requirements change. A revised version will appear here with its new effective date.
