Decatur County Criminal Docket Search

If you need a Decatur County criminal docket, start with the statewide public case system, then turn to the unified county Clerk, who keeps the official record. That office can confirm a hearing, and the court calendar offers another way to check. Some results stay hidden, though. Sealed, confidential, juvenile, or expunged matters do not appear in public searches. To read a docket well, look at the court code, case type, case events, and final outcome together, because a status label alone can mislead.

Decatur County Criminal Case Codes

A Decatur County criminal docket number carries useful routing data. County code 16 comes first. The court segment identifies Circuit or Superior Court, and the type segment identifies the track. F1 through F6 mark felony levels, CM marks a misdemeanor, MC is miscellaneous criminal, and IF is an infraction. The code helps find the file, but it does not prove guilt or state the result.

16C01
Decatur Circuit Court, one active court of record in the county.
16D01
Decatur Superior Court, the other active county trial court.
CM or MC
Misdemeanor or miscellaneous criminal case types used in Indiana numbering.
F1 through F6
Felony-level case codes, which are routing labels rather than disposition terms.

The retired 16E01 Decatur County Court is listed as abolished under current Administrative Rule 8. Do not route a current search there. The official court list also supplies no active Decatur municipal court code.

Inside a Decatur County Criminal Docket

The public case summary presents part of Indiana's Chronological Case Summary, or CCS. It can show the case header, dated events, charges, hearings, bond data, financial entries, and available event documents. An event title is an index entry. It does not guarantee that the filed paper is downloadable, nor does it replace the signed order held by the Clerk.

Case headerCourt, county, case number, type, file date, status, and status date.
Charge rowsCharge number, citation, offense date, statute, description, degree, and original offense details when public.
Hearing settingsSession date and time, court, display text, result, and judicial officer when published.
Case eventsDated filings, appearances, orders, notices, hearings, judgments, and disposition transmissions.
DispositionThe public outcome entry for a charge or case, which must be read separately from open or closed status.

Decatur Charges Versus Dispositions

A charge row describes what the prosecuting authority filed. A disposition row records an outcome when public. Those are not the same stage. Likewise, a closed case status only describes the case's current lifecycle. It does not tell whether a charge led to a plea, conviction, dismissal, or another result.

EntryWhat it answersWhat it does not answer
ChargeWhich allegation and level were filedThe final outcome
StatusWhether the case is listed as open or closedHow each charge ended
DispositionThe recorded outcome for a charge or caseEvery term in the signed judgment

For legal proof, ask the Decatur County Clerk for the certified judgment or sentencing order. MyCase itself warns that public data and financial fields can be incomplete or out of date.

How a Criminal Case Moves

A masked Decatur Superior Court sample began with a new filing and electronic filing event. It then listed an Information, appearance, probable-cause affidavit, confidentiality notice, and pretrial-services report. Later events included an initial hearing, probable-cause order, notices, a bond form, judgment, sentencing, and electronic disposition transmission. That sequence shows how the CCS builds over time, though no case must contain every step.

An event marks an action on a date. It is not a forecast. A bond form event is not the whole bond record, and an Information event is not the final disposition.

Decatur County Criminal Hearing Checks

The Indiana Trial Court Calendars site is a second channel for a Decatur County criminal hearing. Its current Decatur list returns Superior Court. Search the selected date by case number or name, then compare the row with the CCS and any signed scheduling order.

A missing row does not cancel a setting. The public feed may omit a court or hearing. Confirm Superior Court matters at 812-663-8523. For Circuit Court, call 812-663-8455, or ask the Clerk at 812-663-8223. A party can also check with counsel. When the sources conflict, direct confirmation and the court's order control.

The statewide IN Courts remote-hearing page may supply a live link when a court publishes one. It is not an archive, and no Decatur recording page was located.

Courts That Hold Criminal Dockets

Decatur Circuit Court and Decatur Superior Court are the county's active courts of record. Both have general trial authority under Indiana law, and both use the unified Decatur County Clerk. Magistrate Kenneth R. Bass serves within that structure as an assigned judicial officer, not as a separate court with its own public search.

MyCase searches both active courts after Decatur County is selected. The number is the cleanest routing clue: 16C01 means Circuit Court and 16D01 means Superior Court. For an official paper, use the same court number when contacting the Clerk. Federal criminal matters are separate from county cases and use the Southern District of Indiana's CM/ECF and PACER systems.

The official Southern District CM/ECF page illustrates that federal electronic filing is not the Decatur County criminal docket channel.

County searches stay in MyCase and with the Decatur County Clerk; federal searches belong in PACER.

Decatur County Certified Criminal Records

MyCase is free public access, but it is not the official record. Decatur County Clerk Janet Howell maintains both courts' files at 150 Courthouse Square, Suite 244, Greensburg, Indiana 47240. The counter, phone at 812-663-8223, email at clerk@decaturcounty.in.gov, and published fax at 812-662-6627 are documented access channels.

Call before mailing or faxing a request. Decatur County does not publish a complete mail intake form, payment method, identification rule, or turnaround promise. Describe the case number, court code, event or document title, and date. State whether a plain copy, certified judgment, sentencing order, or transcript is needed. A transcript follows the court-reporter route rather than the Clerk's copy counter.

Sealed Dockets and Public Access

Indiana Access Rule 4 begins with public access, while Access Rule 5 defines confidential cases, records, and protected data. Sealed, confidential, juvenile-restricted, and granted-expungement matters may be absent from ordinary MyCase. A visible event can also have a withheld or redacted attachment.

Key access rules:

Do not treat a missing public result as proof that no Decatur County criminal case exists. Ask the Clerk about lawful access and current status.

Protected addresses, birth dates, phone numbers, account data, and other confidential details should never be copied from a criminal record.

The Decatur Clerk's protective-order page confirms that those matters use special forms and handling.

Protection-order searches leave ordinary MyCase and require care with protected personal information.

Decatur County Criminal Access Fallbacks

Use the Clerk when MyCase omits an older file, attachment, or official balance. Use the court calendar for a published Superior Court setting, then call the correct court when a hearing is absent. A formal extraordinary-access request under Indiana Access Rule 9 is reserved for confidential material and requires a verified request and judicial review. It is not a routine search tool.

Indiana's Access to Public Records Act can govern county administrative records, but it does not override a judicial seal or court confidentiality rule. The Indiana Public Access Counselor explains the public-records law side.
