Searching Decatur County Civil Dockets
Use Indiana MyCase for a public Decatur County civil docket search. Its Case tab accepts a case or cross-reference number. The Name tab accepts a person or business, while the Attorney tab provides a third route. Select Decatur County and narrow the category to Civil, Family, or Probate. A case number is strongest because broad name results can include unrelated files.
Decatur Circuit Court numbers begin with 16C01, and Superior Court numbers begin with 16D01. Add status and file dates when needed. MyCase allows sounds-like searching or a trailing wildcard under set rules, but not both at once.
- Choose the Case, Name, or Attorney tab that fits the known data.
- Select Decatur County and the closest civil category.
- Match the court code, filing date, parties, and type.
- Read events in date order and open public documents when available.
- Ask the Clerk for a missing filing, old record, or certified judgment.
Decatur County Unified Civil Clerk
One elected Clerk maintains Circuit and Superior Court civil files. There is no separate small-claims, probate, family, or civil clerk to search. The case number identifies the court, while Suite 244 remains the records destination for both.
MyCase displays public events and some documents. Decatur County Clerk Janet Howell keeps the official record and can route a plain copy, certified copy, or older historical search.
Inside a Decatur County Civil Docket
The civil summary can show court, number, case type, file date, status, parties, attorneys, events, cross-references, fees, transactions, and available event documents. A page count can appear even when the filing image is not public. An event title is an index entry, not the full filed paper.
| Case Number | Court and case route, such as 16D01-2608-SC-000456, a format-only example. |
|---|---|
| Parties | Public party and attorney roles. |
| Filings | Complaint, appearance, service, motion, and order events. |
| Documents | Available nonconfidential attachments, titles, and page counts. |
| Judgment | Outcome event, which should be checked against the signed order. |
Civil Case Types on the Docket
The Decatur Clerk's duties inventory reaches beyond standard money disputes. Both active county courts send records to one Clerk, and MyCase groups many tracks under Civil, Family, and Probate.
- Civil collection, tort, plenary, and miscellaneous civil matters
- Small claims, eviction, rent, damages, and later collection proceedings
- Family, paternity, domestic-relations, and support matters
- Probate, estates, guardianships, and trusts
- Protective-order, mental-health, juvenile, adoption, and CHINS matters with access limits
Civil Docket Settings and Hearings
A Decatur County civil setting may appear in the CCS, a signed order, or the Indiana court calendar. The public calendar currently returns Superior Court. Its lack of a Circuit option does not prove that Circuit has no hearing. Call Circuit Court or the Clerk for confirmation.
A pretrial conference, motion hearing, fact-finding hearing, bench trial, or post-judgment proceeding has a distinct purpose. A continuance request does not move a date by itself. Look for the resulting order and consult the Decatur County court dates resource.
Civil Docket Access Rules
Indiana Access Rule 4 states the public-access principle. Rule 5 restricts sealed cases and confidential records. Medical, mental-health, treatment, evaluation, juvenile, adoption, protection-order, and some family materials may be withheld. A public event can remain visible while its attachment is closed.
Access point: A missing Decatur County civil docket may reflect an older file, indexing gap, or lawful restriction. It does not prove the case never existed.
Contact the Clerk before sending private identifiers or confidential exhibits.
The official rule page shows the starting point for courthouse and remote access.

Extraordinary access follows Rule 9 and judicial review, not an ordinary search.
Decatur County Civil Code Map
Case-type codes map the local docket. CC means civil collection, CT tort, SC small claims, EV eviction, PL civil plenary, and MF miscellaneous civil. MI marks mental health. Domestic-relations matters may use DC, DN, or DR. The code identifies a track, not the full claim or result.
| Codes | Track | Read next |
|---|---|---|
| SC / EV | Small claims or eviction | Notice and service |
| CC / CT | Collection or tort | Complaint and orders |
| PL / MF | Plenary or miscellaneous | Chronology |
Restricted records can limit results in sensitive civil categories.
The code sits inside Indiana's uniform number structure. County code 16 and court code 16C01 or 16D01 come before the filing year, month, case type, and sequence. That structure helps separate two similar Decatur County civil docket results. It also shows which court should receive a question about a setting or transcript. Do not infer the merits from a code. An EV label identifies the filing track, but only the complaint, service history, orders, and judgment show what happened.
A cross-reference number can provide another route when indexed. On MyCase, it must be searched by itself on the Case tab rather than combined with a case number. When only a business name is known, use the Business field instead of entering it as a person's last name. A broad result should be narrowed by Decatur County, category, status, and file-date range before any case is treated as a match.
Decatur County Default Judgment Sequence
A masked Superior Court sample showed a new filing, appearance, summons or subpoena, complaint, service returned served, motion for default judgment, an order granting the motion, default judgment, and notices. Each act creates its own civil docket event.
Illustrated flow: Filing › Service › Response period › Motion › Order › Judgment
A motion is not a ruling. Closed status does not state how each issue ended. Read the judgment event with the signed order.
Decatur County Small Claims Forms
The Clerk's small-claims collection includes notices of claim, eviction/rent/damages forms, fee-waiver and continuance motions, dismissals, proceedings-supplemental papers, releases, and business certificates. A blank form does not prove filing.

Use MyCase or the Clerk to confirm that a paper became a civil event.
The miscellaneous forms page adds summonses, subpoenas, continuances, estate claims, service certificates, dismissals, and telephonic-appearance papers.

Check the court and current rules before filing.
Decatur County Civil Fees
The state fee manual lists a $97 small-claims total outside Marion Township, reduced to $87 through e-filing, plus a possible $28 sheriff-service charge. It permits not more than $1 per copied page and $1 per certificate. These lines do not promise the final amount in a specific case.
| Item | Amount | Check |
|---|---|---|
| Small claims | $97 or $87 e-filed | Case needs |
| Sheriff service | Possible $28 | Service route |
| Copy | Up to $1/page | Total and delivery |
The official fee publication is the source.

Call the Clerk because filing, service, copying, and certification are separate.
Decatur County Civil Clerk Fallback
For missing attachments or older matters, contact Decatur County Clerk Janet Howell at 150 Courthouse Square, Suite 244, Greensburg, IN 47240. Phone 812-663-8223, fax 812-662-6627, or email clerk@decaturcounty.in.gov. Ask whether counter, mail, fax, or email intake fits the request.
Provide the court code, case number, file date, event title, and copy type. Ask about payment, identification, delivery, and timing. A transcript goes to the court reporter. The county posts no complete certified-copy intake form or turnaround promise.
The Clerk's permanent-record duty matters when a Decatur County civil docket is absent online. An older pre-Odyssey case, alternate spelling, restricted category, or indexing difference can account for the gap. It does not show that the file was destroyed. Ask staff to distinguish a docket or CCS search from a request for the document behind an event. A plain copy, certified copy, record transcript of judgment, and hearing transcript follow different fee and custodian paths.
Mail and fax are possible contact channels because the office publishes an address and fax number, but the county has not posted a complete remote-request procedure. Confirm the accepted request format, prepayment method, identification needs, and delivery terms before sending anything. Avoid emailing confidential exhibits or full sensitive identifiers unless the Clerk gives a secure instruction.
