Searching the Decatur County Court Docket
Start with Indiana MyCase. That free portal holds the public docket for both Decatur Circuit Court and Decatur Superior Court. A Decatur County court docket search there can run on a case number, citation number, cross-reference number, party, business, or attorney name. Pick Decatur County and the right case group first. Add a file-date range or an open or closed status after that. One caution applies. MyCase shows the record but is not the official one. The Decatur County Clerk keeps the court file itself. Older records, sealed matters, confidential cases, juvenile files, granted expungements, and some event documents stay off the public view. Turn to the Clerk when a search comes up short. Or turn there when you need a certified copy.
- Open MyCase and choose the Case, Name, or Attorney tab.
- Select Decatur County and the closest case category.
- Enter one strong identifier, then narrow broad results by status or filing date.
- Open the matching case and review the court code, events, settings, and documents.
- Confirm critical facts with the Clerk or court before acting.
The official MyCase search tips show the exact syntax.

Those rules are why a broad name sometimes fails. They are also why it can return far too many rows. A trailing wildcard is allowed, but it cannot start a name or stand in for an entire first or last name.
Decatur County MyCase Search Fields
MyCase splits its search tabs by what you know. The Case tab takes one identifier at a time. That can be a case number, citation number, or cross-reference number. Use the Name tab for a person or business instead. Sounds-like matching and a trailing wildcard can rescue an odd spelling. The two will not combine in a single field.
| Field | Best use | Decatur County note |
|---|---|---|
| Case number | Known court file | Look for 16C01 or 16D01 |
| Citation number | Traffic or ordinance matter | Use the number printed on the ticket |
| Party or business | No file number | Add court, type, status, and date filters |
| Attorney or bar number | Cases linked to counsel | Name and bar-number modes are separate |
The Indiana MyCase help page distinguishes anonymous public search from party access.

Party access is different. It needs an Indiana Courts account plus a private case access code, so it sits apart from the ordinary public docket path.
Inside a Decatur County Court Docket
Indiana names its running register the Chronological Case Summary, or CCS. MyCase lays out that public chronology as case events. Each event marks a step in the court record: a filing, notice, hearing, order, judgment, disposition, or payment transaction. An event title is just a title. It does not always come with the document image. The Clerk's full file may hold a pleading or order the portal never displays.
| Case number | The court, filing period, case type, and sequence, such as 16D01-2608-SC-000456. |
|---|---|
| Case status | The current lifecycle label and date, not a full statement of the outcome. |
| Events | Dated filings, settings, orders, notices, and disposition activity. |
| Parties and roles | Public names and roles when access rules allow them. |
| Documents | Available nonconfidential attachments, sometimes with title and page count. |
| Fees | Public financial rows that may be incomplete or out of date. |
Trust the sequence, then go further. A signed order outweighs any calendar row, and a certified copy from the Clerk beats a screen view. When the exact ruling matters, pull the filed document.
Decatur County Case Number Codes
County code 16 comes from Administrative Rule 8. Decatur Circuit Court carries the prefix 16C01, and Decatur Superior Court uses 16D01. After that, the case number's remaining groups give the filing year and month, the case type, and the sequence. A format example like 16C01-2608-CM-000123 shows how the code fits together without pointing at a live case.
- CM
- Misdemeanor case.
- IF
- Infraction case, often tied to a citation.
- SC
- Small-claims case.
- EV
- Eviction case.
- PL
- Civil plenary matter.
- CC
- Civil collection case.
One old prefix is gone. The 16E01 Decatur County Court code is marked abolished, and no current city or county court carries it.
Courts That Keep Dockets in Decatur County
Two courts of record serve Decatur County, and both file through the unified county Clerk. Circuit Court holds broad trial jurisdiction. Superior Court covers general criminal and civil matters. Magistrate Kenneth R. Bass serves inside both courts rather than presiding over a separate searchable court, and the state list shows no current Greensburg or town-court code.
| Court or office | Docket role | Public route |
|---|---|---|
| Decatur Circuit Court, 16C01 | Criminal, civil, juvenile, family, probate, and assigned cases | MyCase, Clerk, and court confirmation |
| Decatur Superior Court, 16D01 | General criminal, civil, small-claims, and much infraction work | MyCase, calendar, and Clerk |
| Court Services | Probation, home detention, pretrial, wellness court, and work release | Program office, not a docket index |
Appeals leave the county entirely. They go to the Court of Appeals of Indiana or the Indiana Supreme Court. Federal matters run through the Southern District of Indiana and PACER, not MyCase.
Decatur County Odyssey Since 2020
Both Decatur trial courts went live on Odyssey at the same moment. Indiana's Odyssey directory gives February 10, 2020 as the go-live date. Since then the system has taken e-filed material, kept the case-management record, and powered the MyCase public layer. It also feeds the electronic citation workflow. That workflow moves data among law enforcement, the courts, and the Bureau of Motor Vehicles. The Indiana e-filing schedule shows how broad trial-court coverage now runs.

E-filing is a channel, not a search. Lawyers file through it, while the public reads eligible case data through MyCase and the Clerk remains the official custodian of the court record.
How to Find Decatur County Court Dates
For hearings, use the Indiana Trial Court Calendars tool. It searches by county, date, an optional court, and a case number or name. The current Decatur list returns Superior Court only. It covers the past seven days and the next four weeks, with a search box capped at 75 characters. Each result may list the time, case, court, description, judicial officer, location, and phone. A missing row does not cancel a hearing. The citation, summons, CCS event, signed order, Clerk, and court all count for more. Circuit Court does not appear in the calendar selector. So confirm any Circuit setting with the court or Suite 244. The remote-hearing page can post live links, but it keeps no archive. The full walkthrough sits in the Decatur County court dates resource.
Decatur County Court Calendar Limits
Treat the public calendar as a short rolling view. It promises neither every hearing nor every Decatur court. It cannot replay a past proceeding. A row can shift after a continuance, reset, cancellation, or new order. Weigh its date against the CCS and the latest signed order.
The county posts no livestream archive, same-day cancellation procedure, or local remote-hearing page. If the list is silent, call the Clerk at 812-663-8223, Circuit Court at 812-663-8455, or Superior Court at 812-663-8523. Silence does not mean no court date exists.
A citation or summons may carry the first appearance date. That holds even when the public feed shows no row. Later settings surface as case events or signed orders. Check the court name and code before dialing. Circuit and Superior use different contact lines. Ask whether the setting is still active. Ask whether it is in person or remote, and which filed order controls. Only the court can grant a continuance or reset a hearing.
Public Access to Decatur County Court Dockets
Most Indiana court records are open to the public. A rule, a statute, or a court order can still close them. Online access works differently too. Seeing a docket event is not the same as opening its attachment. Juvenile, mental-health, treatment, adoption, and protection-order files face limits. So do sealed, expunged, and protected victim or witness material.
Key Indiana access rules:
Access Rule 4 states the general public-access principle.
Access Rule 5 defines confidential cases, records, and redactions.
Access Rule 9 governs verified extraordinary-access requests.
Administrative Rule 9 addresses remote docket, calendar, and bulk access.
The Indiana Access to Public Records Act covers many county administrative records, but it cannot break a judicial seal. For ordinary court-file requests, the Clerk is the first stop.
Missing Decatur County Docket Documents
A missing online docket entry has many possible causes. The record may predate Odyssey. It may sit under a misspelled name, another court code, a confidential category, or beyond a broad result limit. Protection-order cases live in a separate state search. Federal cases require PACER. And some public docket events have no downloadable image at all. The Clerk still holds the filing, though.
Strip the hyphens and leading zeroes from the case number first. Then check whether the prefix is 16C01 or 16D01. In a name search, add the Decatur court filter, the case category, the status, and the file dates. Sounds-like matching helps when the spelling is uncertain. A trailing wildcard can widen the end of a name, though it may flood you with results. MyCase caps any search at 1,000 results, so narrow the query instead of assuming the case does not exist.
When a record stays hidden, the Indiana public court records page points you to the local clerk.

An empty online result is not proof that a filing never existed.
Docket Records at Decatur County Clerk
Clerk Janet Howell keeps and certifies records for both courts. She serves Decatur County Circuit Court and Superior Court. One office handles felonies, misdemeanors, infractions, civil cases, small claims, family, juvenile, probate, mental health, estates, guardianships, trusts, CHINS, paternity, protective orders, and appeals. Historical records stay there permanently too. Need a missing document? A plain copy, a certified copy, a judgment record, or a custody question all start at this unified office.
Have some facts ready before you reach the counter. Bring the case number, court code, event title, event date, and the copy type you want. Staff can then tell a CCS printout from an order, judgment, transcript, or full file. Never send Social Security numbers, account numbers, protected addresses, passwords, or private access codes through ordinary email. Ask first which details are required and which request channel the office accepts.

Decatur County Copies and Transcripts
Three different products come out of one courthouse. A plain copy just reproduces a record. A certified copy adds the Clerk's certification. A transcript is different entirely: it is the spoken record, prepared through a court reporter or transcript vendor. The Superior Court page links its own transcript route, which is separate from the ordinary copy counter.
| Item | State amount | Local caution |
|---|---|---|
| Ordinary copy or transcript page | Not more than $1 per page | Confirm the Decatur process |
| Certificate | $1 per certificate | Ask whether this line applies |
| Record transcript of judgment | $3 | Confirm the record type |
| Certified-copy total | No local total posted | Page, mailing, and other costs can vary |
The state request guide sends records to the clerk and transcripts to the reporter.

The court posts no local search-fee schedule, copy form, payment list, or turnaround time. Ask before ordering.
Decatur County Cases by the Numbers
Indiana's ICOR data measure workload. They do not count named cases. The 2024 all-courts view showed 4,462 new filings and 4,379 dispositions. The filings broke down by type. They included 1,391 criminal, 1,392 civil-violation, 405 juvenile, and 1,274 civil matters. Superior Court handled most of the infraction and general civil activity. Circuit Court carried the juvenile work. It also took a large share of criminal and civil cases.
The trial statistics page provides the source context.

Numbers cannot tell you what happened in one case. They only describe the docket mix. The ICOR statistics help page defines each term.

Transferred and venued cases can affect totals. MyCase remains the individual search layer.
Decatur County Court Dockets by City
None of the five incorporated places below has an active municipal-court code in the current Rule 8 or the state directory. Their city and town sites hold civic records like ordinances, minutes, and meeting notices instead. Actual court cases route through Decatur Circuit Court, Decatur Superior Court, MyCase, the calendar, and the county Clerk.
Greensburg Docket Search
2020 population 12,312. County-seat cases use the county systems.
Westport Docket Search
2020 population 1,393. Town and court records have separate custodians.
St. Paul Docket Search
2020 population 960. Civic records are not court files.
New Point Docket Search
2020 population 319. Cases use county routes.
Millhousen Docket Search
2020 population 149. Town events are not court settings.
Each city page keeps its local facts separate. It sends court-record questions to the lawful custodian. City hall, a town office, and a civic center cannot replace the Decatur County Clerk. Use municipal sources for ordinances and meeting records. Then turn to the county courts for a case event, hearing, judgment, or certified filing.
Decatur County Party Docket Access
A public MyCase search needs no login. A party with an Indiana Courts account and a case access code has a different path. It opens material available to that participant. Keep the code private. It unlocks participant records. Treat it as a key rather than a search term to share. The official MyCase party-access page walks through the account flow.

Party access does not erase Rule 5 restrictions. It only widens the view for an authorized participant.
Anonymous search and party access serve different needs. A member of the public sees the case summary and whatever documents were released to the public audience. A party may see added documents when the account and code are tied to that case. Neither view makes MyCase the certified record. If a filed order is missing, a balance looks stale, or you need legal proof, the Decatur County Clerk is still the office to contact.
